KBS Academy

Training that unlocks potential — and puts it to work

KBS Academy exists to confront unemployment with training that ends in a livelihood. We prepare young South Africans for technical careers — on live sites, under supervision, against real qualifications — and equip them to contribute meaningfully to the economy, at KBS and far beyond it.

Why it exists

A technology company that does not create technologists is merely extracting.

South Africa does not lack young people who want technical careers. It lacks employers willing to carry them through the first eighteen months, when supervision costs more than the work returns — and so capable people wait outside an economy that needs them.

We carry that cost deliberately, and not only for ourselves. The Academy hosts learners inside KBS and places them with partner employers, so that the skill it creates enters the market rather than a single payroll. Some graduates we retain — a number of our present engineers and developers arrived by exactly this route. The rest we release, qualified and work-ready, into the country that trained alongside us.

Recruit

Graduates and first-time entrants into the sector, drawn from the communities we operate in.

Instruct

Occupational qualifications and skills programmes with structured assessment.

Expose

Supervised work on live client sites, logged against a workplace learning record.

Place & employ

Graduates retained at KBS or placed with partner employers across the sector.

Programmes

Pathways that end in employment, not paperwork

Each pathway maps to a role that exists in the market — many of them inside this company — so a learner can see the job at the end of the programme rather than a certificate without a destination.

Cloud administration

An occupational pathway preparing learners for cloud infrastructure and administration roles — identity, tenancy, workloads and support.

Leads toward · Cloud administrator · Infrastructure support

Software development

A pathway aligned to the disciplines used in our own product team, from fundamentals through to low-code application delivery on the Power Platform.

Leads toward · Software developer · Power Platform engineer

End user computing

An entry route into ICT support and digital literacy for first-time entrants, covering hardware, operating systems and service desk practice.

Leads toward · Service desk engineer · LAN technician

Workplace-based learning

Host-employer agreements, logbooks and supervised exposure on live sites — the component most learners never receive, and the one that determines employability.

Site and safety induction

Before a learner enters a hospital, a municipal building or a datacentre, they are inducted on conduct, safety and the client's own access requirements.

Assessment and certification

Structured assessment against the qualification, with records maintained inside the ISO 9001 quality system alongside our engineer certifications.

For clients and funders

What the Academy delivers for your mandate

Skills development that is evidenced
Learner records, attendance, workplace logs and assessment outcomes are documented — the evidence a B-BBEE verification or a grant report actually requires.
Skills transfer written into delivery
Where a contract carries a skills transfer obligation, we discharge it with named learners on the actual engagement rather than a workshop after handover.
Local absorption
On provincial rollouts we recruit and train in the districts where the work happens, which shortens response times long after the project closes.
Enterprise and supplier development
The Academy supports ESD commitments with a structured, auditable programme rather than an ad hoc bursary.
Standing and alignment
QCTOAccreditation in progress MICT SETASector alignment Level 1Strengthens B-BBEE

We describe the QCTO position as accreditation in progress rather than accredited. That precision matters: a funder or verification agency will check it, and an overstatement costs more than the claim is worth.

Partner with the Academy

If you carry a skills development target, a learnership budget or an ESD obligation, we can host, instruct and place — and report on it in a form your verification agency accepts.

Discuss a programme

Young Black technologists in technical roles — building the economy, not filing for it.

That distinction is the point of the Academy. If you are a graduate seeking your first eighteen months, an employer willing to host a learner, or an organisation carrying a skills development mandate, we would like to hear from you.
